Periodontal Care (Scaling and Root Planing)

When you have active periodontal disease, routine cleanings are not enough because the generally focus on the areas of the tooth above the gumline. A scaling and root planing procedure, sometimes called “deep cleaning“, removes plaque, tartar, and bacterial toxins from the tooth surfaces below the gumline. To keep you comfortable, we usually numb the area. Using special instruments we meticulously remove the plaque and tartar around the tooth. Depending on your situation we may also apply medication or use laser therapy. Scaling and root planing removes the source of infection, helps your gums heal and tighten around your teeth, and gives you back your healthy smile.
